How to create or import a decentralized wallet on the Metamask.io Web Extension
User interaction with decentralized applications (Dapps) using blockchains like Ethereum, requires a bridge. This is precisely what MetaMask does!
MetaMask is an extension or plugin for web browsers that allows users to easily interact with decentralized applications on the Ethereum blockchain.
To be able to perform a transaction on the Ethereum blockchain from the website www.furiousalphagymclub.com, you will need :
- This extension in your browser.
- Get ETH on the wallet configured in MetaMask.
First of all, you’ll need to download the extension from the official website www.metamask.io and add it to your browser (chrome or firefox).
Then click on “Get Started” and specify if you want to share information related to your use to the MetaMask teams or not.
Personally, I always refuse! :)
Once this step is completed, you have 2 options:
- Create a new MetaMask wallet to receive the ETH purchased from a centralized exchange platform as in the previous article with Crypto.com.
- Import an existing DeFi wallet with ETH already purchased on it as for example the Maiar Wallet already created in the previous article.
1. Create a new DeFi Wallet on MetaMask
If you choose this solution, it’s probably because you have followed the article How to buy ETH via a centralized exchange platform and that you have created your crypto.com account.
So I invite you to click on “Create a wallet” (see 1 of the visual above).
Then start protecting your application with a password so that no one can make transactions if you ever lose your computer.
Once this step is completed, you will arrive on a new page called “Secure your wallet”. I invite you to watch carefully the available video which will explain you precisely what is a secret phrase and how you must protect it.
You will understand very quickly that it is absolutely essential to never share this phrase with ANYONE… neither your family, nor your friends, nor even the support of the application!
After reading and validating the information, you will arrive at the most important step of this tutorial…
Storing the secret phrase!
Never write your secret phrase in a note, on your phone/computer or on a drive like Google Drive since in case of a virus, you might get all your digital assets stolen.
So I recommend that you take a piece of paper and write all the words in order one by one without any spelling mistakes.
Once all the words are written down, you will have to click on each word in the right order to prove that you know the secret phrase and that you have kept it somewhere.
By pressing “Confirm” (see visual below), you will access your new portfolio on the Metamask app.
Now you just need to retrieve the address below “Account 1” (see picture 2 below) to send your ETH from Crypto.com. The steps to make the transfer can be found in the article How to buy ETH via a centralized exchange platform.
For information: An Ethereum address always starts with 0x and is always 42 characters long (ex: 0x4929B11aCE7AA88c70115ccEbD94445F60f0A9D6).
2. Import an existing DeFi Wallet on MetaMask
To use a Wallet that you have already created on another application such as Maiar (or Trust Wallet), I invite you to click on “Import Wallet”.
Then fill in your 12 or 24 words, which you have previously stored securely (on a sheet of paper), adding a space between each word.
Finish this step by protecting your application with a password.
Then click on “Import”. You will then access MetaMask with the same address as on your other DeFi Wallet applications.
You should then see all your digital assets displayed.
For information : On the attached screenshot, there are no ETH since this account was created especially for the article.
Your MetaMask app is now configured and ready for the final use: The mint of Alpha Kong NFTs!
